Episode 43 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 – Adam Warlock Superstar
This week we are getting ready for the third and final installment of the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and the trailers and previews have given us a pretty good idea of what some of the key elements are that you need to know going in. So this week is all about the High Evolutionary, the New Men, and Adam Warlock.

Tales to Astonish #94-96 (Hulk story only)
Marvel Premiere (1972) #1-2
Warlock (1972) #1-8
Bonus: Rocket Racoon #1 (1985)
Creator Profile: Gil Kane
2 Minute Recap and Discussion Topics
Thor #134, 135
High Evolutionary is trying to “prove his revolutionary theories” and is using questionable science.
The New Men are “Knights Errant” with a code of honor and chivalry
Notable absence of any evolved raccoons
Tales to Astonish #94-96
Continues the story from the Thor books.
Hulk is actually OK with leaving Earth. Thinks it’s a “Second chance” for him.
New Men here are follows of High Evolutionary and not Man-Beast
Each issue flips cover placement and story order. 94 and 96 are Namor-first issues, 95 is a Hulk-first issue.
Evolutionary is seriously reckless
Surely this story can't continue...
Marvel Premiere (1972) #1-2, Warlock (1972) #1-8
Except it does.
Introduction of Counter-Earth
Warlock/Him just floating around in space
New Men corrupt Counter-Earth but Warlock doesn't want to see the world destroyed
Warlock meets up with teens that give him the name Adam
Battles Man-Beast and Kills him (so we think)
Takes on other Monsters and teams up with Victor Von Doom against Reed Richards who's a Brute
Story just ends with a confrontation in the Oval office between Warlock and Man-Beast who was controlling the president.
Overtly religious themes.
Dan's theory about Counter-Earth and how it may come to pass in Guardians 3
Rocket Racoon #1
Wild story about Halfworld, talking animals, robots, a killer clown and insane people
Meet Lylla and Walrus (whom we saw in a Guardians 3 clip released)
Rival toymakers each via for Lylla's affection and Rocket is tasked with finding out what's going on.
Part of a 4-book collection from 1985.

COMICS OVER TIME
Comics Over Time is a weekly podcast where our hosts Dan and Duane read important and interesting comic books that provided characters and story ideas for movies or TV. Then we'll watch how those stories were translated to the big (or small) screen.
We have a lot of great comics, movies and TV shows lined up to share with you. Whether you are a long-time fan of comic books and comic book movies, or are just getting started, we invite you to join us as we look back at the history of these characters and their stories, as well as attempt to connect the dots from comic panels to moving pictures.
